AS Monaco are pleased to announce a two-season loan deal for 24-year-old goalkeeper Alexander Nübel from Bayern Munich.
AS Monaco and Bayern Munich have reached an agreement to sign former German U21 international goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, who has signed for AS Monaco through 2023. A talented goalkeeper, the 1.93m native of Paderborn will embark on what is a third stage in his professional career, and the the first outside Germany, after spells at Schalke 04 and Bayern Munich.
Breaking through at Schalke and becoming captain
After having done his training at SC Paderborn, Alexander Nübel joined Schalke 04 in 2015. Less than a year later, he made his professional debut in his side’s Bundesliga win against Hoffenheim (4-1) . In 2018, he made his first start in the Champions League, keeping a clean sheet during a match against Galatasaray (0-0). After becoming the starting goalkeeper of Schalke 04, he was even made club captain, playing 53 times with the armband.
Best goalkeeper at the 2019 U-21 European Championships
In the summer of 2020, he signed for 5 years with Bayern Munich, having been out of contract with the Gelsenkirchen side. In Munich, he played four matches (including two in the Champions League) and became German champion with the Bavarian club. In parallel with his club career, Alexander Nübel also has been capped for the German U-21s 17 times.
In 2019, he was notably elected best goalkeeper of the U-21 Euros after having greatly contributed to his team’s run to the final (1-2).
