Alltogether 193 speakers took part, including 87 Heads of State including HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco.
In a particularly volatile international context, in particular due to armed conflicts in the Middle East, Ukraine and elsewhere, the Heads of State launched an appeal for peace.
HSH Prince Albert II particularly emphasized in his speech the importance of solidarity and dialogue
in a divided world. He also mentioned the need to achieve gender equality, and in this regard it can be noted that only ten women, heads of delegation of their country, took the floor.
Other topics discussed were the fight against climate change, the regulation of the development of artificial intelligence, and the fight against disinformation. Several meetings and a Summit also took place during this high-level week.
The Future Summit, which preceded the general debate, saw the adoption of the Future Compact, which includes the Declaration for Future Generations and the Global Digital Compact and is intended to be a roadmap to address global challenges.
In his address at the Summit, HSH the Sovereign Prince stressed that peace is the most precious good and stressed the importance of respecting and protecting human rights. He also highlighted the power of sport as a universal language that facilitates rapprochement between peoples and cultures, erases social barriers and promotes sustainable development.
On 24 September, Isabelle BERRO-AMADEÏ, Minister-Counsellor for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, attended the Security Council ministerial meeting on the situation in Ukraine, during which Ukrainian President Volodymyr ZELENSKY urged the international community to „force“ Russia to make peace.
At the high-level meeting on the issue of rising sea levels, held on 25 September, Ms. BERRO-AMADEÏ recalled Monaco’s commitment to protecting the oceans and combating climate change. The meeting focused on the legal, socio-economic and scientific aspects of the consequences of rising sea levels, as well as its impacts on food security. Adaptation strategies for a sustainable future were discussed, particularly for small island developing States and countries with coastlines and coastal areas.
