The opening of the 5th edition of artmonte-carlo took place in an energetic and productive atmosphere, ideal for the resumption of physical art fairs. Art lovers and professionals from the region, and a high number of international collectors, surpassing expectations, made the trip today and thus honored the Monegasque fair.
Following the initiative in 2016 of a new art fair in the Principality and after 5 years of continuous development and consolidation, we are pleased to notice that artmonte-carlo has been able to federate on the French Riviera the various international actors of the art market.
The summer period, the destination and the controlled and very selective format of this edition, taking place in parallel of a major Giacometti retrospective at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco, proved to be a wining formula for this successful opening.
For this anniversary edition, loyal galleries such as White Cube, Almine Rech, Franco Noero, Air de Paris, kamel mennour, Perrotin, Mazzoleni and Mitterrand, were joined by prestigious names such as Pace, Hauser & Wirth and Esther Schipper in the contemporary sector, but also by modern art galleries such as Waddington Custot, Dickinson and Thomas Gibson Fine Art as well as by design pioneers such as Galerie kreo and Carpenters Workshop.
The Prix Solo artmonte-carlo – F.P.Journe was awarded to the best exhibition presented at the fair by an institutional jury composed of Björn Dahlström (Director, Nouveau Musée National de Monaco), Célia Bernasconi (Chief curator, Nouveau Musée National de Monaco) and Clément Minighetti (Chief curator, Mudam Luxembourg – Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean). The prize was awarded to Guillaume Leblon, represented by Galerie Nathalie Obadia.
Initiated in 2016 by Thomas Hug under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, artmonte-carlo is a leading artistic platform for contemporary art, modern art and design. The fair has positioned itself over the years as the leading international art market event on the French Riviera. artmonte-carlo was established following the success of artgenève, whose 10th edition will be celebrated at the end of January 2022 at Palexpo Geneva.
artmonte-carlo is honored to be among the firsts to open the ball for the resumption of physical art fairs in Europe, in a context of particularly rich artistic activity this summer on the French Riviera: a major retrospective of Alberto Giacometti at the Grimaldi Forum, not to mention exhibitions at the Mamac, the Maeght Foundation, the Villa Arson and the new CAB Foundation Saint-Paul-de-Vence. The Prix Pictet, the world’s leading prize for photography and sustainability, is presenting its exhibition Hope in a dedicated space (Le Genois) at the Grimaldi Forum, until July 27 2021.
